seashore foraging lambay island

Wild leaves, flowers, berries, seeds, roots and seaweeds have been used for food and healing by all cultures for thousands of years. Our hedgerows, fields, parks, urban areas and coastlines are abundant with useful wild plants.

Learn how to safely identify Native Irish Coastal Plants, Herbs, Seaweeds and Shellfish, with plenty of tips on using them to create tasty and nutritious wild food dishes, drinks and simple herbal remedies.

This walk will focus on the seaweeds and plants that we find on the day. We will identify and taste some of the seasonal plants, berries and sea vegetables that we find and we will discuss their associated folklore, along with their culinary and medicinal uses. We will also identify the seaweeds that we find on the beach and share ideas of how to incorporate their mega healthy properties into an everyday diet.

Some of the plants we will cover include:

  • Sea Beet
  • Sea Radish
  • Sea Buckthorn
  • Rosehip
  • Rock Samphire
  • Mallow
  • Wild carrot
